About Phuket Community

Phuket Community is an independent editorial publication for people who live on Phuket — or are seriously thinking about it.

We publish resident-focused guides, long-form editorial, a weekly newsletter, and a growing library of practical content covering everything from where to eat to how to get a driving licence. Our shortlists are tested, our guides are specific, and when we don’t know something, we say so.

Who we are

Phuket Community grew out of Phuket South, an earlier publication covering the south of the island. In 2024 we expanded to serve all of Phuket under the name Phuket Community. The site is run by a small team based on the island. The editorial team sets the direction, writes the majority of the content, and makes the final call on what we publish and who we partner with.

We also work with a growing number of named contributors who write under their own bylines — currently Johnny Carter, Lara Bamping, and Millie Johnson. What we’re for

Most online content about Phuket is written for tourists. It ranks the same ten restaurants, recommends the same beaches, and describes the island in adjectives that no one who lives here would use.

We exist because residents deserve better. Our content assumes you already live here, or that you’re making a real decision about whether to. We write about the things that actually matter to your week — not your holiday.

Editorial and partnerships

Phuket Community works with a small number of local businesses as paid partners. Partners receive a profile on our site, periodic newsletter inclusion, and visibility across category pages. That relationship is always disclosed and always separate from editorial.

Our shortlists, guides, and recommendations are produced independently. A partner might appear in a shortlist — but only because they earned the spot, not because they paid for it. A non-partner can rank above a partner, and regularly does. More on how this works: /how-we-choose-partners.

We don’t operate as a real estate platform, a tourism board, or a listings aggregator.

Disclosure

Phuket Community is part of the Chokdee Group, which also includes Wilsons (café, Rawai and Phuket Town) and Hawook (property-market research). Each operates independently — they cover different subjects for different audiences, maintain separate editorial standards, and do not share commercial partnerships. Where overlap occurs (a neighbourhood piece that mentions a development, for instance), it is disclosed in the article.

Phuket Community’s editorial decisions are not influenced by Hawook’s commercial relationships, and Hawook’s property analysis is not influenced by Phuket Community’s partnerships.
