This privacy policy explains how Phuket Community (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, and protects your personal data when you use phuketcommunity.com and subscribe to our newsletter. It applies to all visitors, subscribers, and users of our site.

What data we collect

When you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address and, optionally, your first name. You provide this information directly through the subscription form on our site.

When you visit our website, we collect standard analytics data through Google Analytics (GA4). This includes pages visited, time on page, approximate geographic location (country/region level), device type, browser type, and referring source. This data is aggregated and not used to identify you personally.

When you read our newsletter, our newsletter platform (Beehiiv) tracks whether you opened the email and which links you clicked. We use this data to understand which content our readers find useful and to improve what we publish.

We do not collect payment information, government identification, health data, or any other sensitive personal information.

How we use your data

We use the data we collect for the following purposes:

  • Delivering the Phuket Community newsletter to your inbox
  • Understanding which content resonates with our readers (open rates, click patterns)
  • Improving site content and user experience based on aggregated analytics
  • Responding to enquiries sent to our contact address

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers. We do not use your data for targeted advertising. We do not build individual profiles for marketing purposes.

Cookies

Our site uses a limited number of cookies:

  • Functional cookies set by our web framework (Next.js) for site operation. These are necessary for the site to work and cannot be disabled.
  • Analytics cookies set by Google Analytics to collect aggregated usage data. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
  • Embedded cookies that may be set when newsletter subscription forms (Beehiiv) load on the page.

We do not use advertising cookies, social media tracking pixels, or third-party marketing cookies.

Data storage and international transfers

Our primary services are hosted in the United States. If you are located outside the United States — including in Thailand or the European Economic Area — your data may be transferred to and processed in the US. We rely on the data-processing agreements of our third-party providers to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place.

Your rights

Under Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA), you have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data. You may also withdraw consent for data collection at any time.

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), if you are an EU/EEA resident, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, data portability, and to object to processing of your personal data.

Under Australia’s Privacy Act, if you are an Australian resident, you have the right to access and correct your personal information.

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email.

Data retention

We retain your email address and subscriber data for as long as you remain subscribed to our newsletter. If you unsubscribe, your data is removed from our active subscriber list within 30 days. Aggregated analytics data (which cannot identify you) may be retained indefinitely.

Children

Phuket Community does not knowingly collect data from anyone under the age of 16. If you believe we have inadvertently collected data from a minor, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify subscribers via email.
