The In-Between · Week 8

You Don't Need to Know What's Next

There is a difference between having no direction and not knowing the whole route.

Train journey through mountains — the route ahead disappearing around a bend

We place enormous pressure on ourselves to know what comes next.

Where will you live? What will you do? Is this relationship right? Is the business going to work? What happens after this chapter?

Sometimes we think clarity means having answers to all of those questions.

I am less convinced of that than I used to be.

There are periods of life when the honest answer is simply: I do not know yet.

That does not mean you are lost.

You may know enough.

Enough to make the phone call. Enough to take the meeting. Enough to get on the plane. Enough to say no to something that no longer fits. Enough to take one sensible step and see what becomes visible from there.

Some clarity only arrives through movement.

We often want certainty before we act because certainty feels safe.

Life rarely offers it in that order.

You move. You pay attention. You adjust.

Then the next part appears.

Perhaps the goal is not to create a life where uncertainty disappears.

Perhaps it is to become someone who can remain steady while some things are still unresolved.

You do not need the entire map.

You need enough honesty to recognise the next clear move.

Reflection for the week

What is the next clear move you already know, even if you cannot yet see what comes after it?
